We were able to head up to the High Uinta's to a place called Rock Creek last week. Jared's Great Grandpa grew up taking "city dudes" on fishing expeditions. It's a really neat place with lots of family history. We took Camille and Garet with us this year! They had a great time. Camille is a regular cowgirl. She had a hard time sharing her horse!
The horses are loaded up!
Camille on Lightning.
The whole gang at the trail head. (6 horses + Jared & I, Jason & Melissa, Will & Traci, Grandpa, Camille, Garet, and of course T-Bone (Will & Traci's dog)). Grandma was kind enough to stay home with Mason and Hazel, which made our trip much more enjoyable! Thanks Grandma!
We hiked/rode in about 7 miles to a place called Corduroy. Garet loved riding with Grandpa on the horse.
We stopped and hiked to a water fall on the way. It took a little longer than we thought, but it sure was pretty!
Going back down to the trail. The lake in the back ground is called Upper Stillwater.
Rigging up the fishing poles! The kids thought the flies were weird.
Grandpa and Garet again!
Camille and Jared at camp. Jared has been coming here since he was a little boy.
Melissa and Jason!
Grandpa teaching Camille how to fish! Both kids caught fish all by themselves! The fishing is spectacular. You can seriously catch a fish on every cast.
Garet boy fishing!
Mom and Garet.
More fishin'
Camille was pouting because she couldn't ride the horse all by herself! I put this in for future reference!! Hee-hee!
On the second day we rode up to a place called the Gorge. We had a little rodeo with Maverick and Jason before we hit the trail, but Jason was ok and we made it! We had an even better day fishing and playing in the freezing water.
Garet sitting on the horse.
The girls, Melissa, Traci, Crystal, and Camille, right before the fishing contest. Jared's family has a tradition of having this fishing contest. Whoever can run to the river, catch a fish, and come back with a fish still on the hook, wins! It's a blast!
Camille and Garet with their "fish pond". Jared built them a little pond and we put 3 or 4 fish in it for them to play with. They had a lot of fun!
Camille wanted to get in the river, so she took her pants off and in she went! Silly goose.
She would crawl on the rocks out to the middle of the river and pose for the camera.
Will is a master widdler, so he made Camille and Garet these really cool indian heads. The kids were enthralled.
Grandpa fryin' up the best fish in the entire world! They taste so delicious when they are fresh from the river! Yum, yum!
Camille wanted to ride lightning bare back around camp.......so she did.
On the third day me, Jared, Melissa, Jason, and Will hiked to Slide Lake. All seemed well on the map and GPS until it took us 2 1/2 hours to hike 1.6 miles! It was seriously straight up, crawling over fallen wood, slide rock, and thick forest. It was a beautiful lake, but we were beat by the time we crawled back into camp 4 hours later. I'd say it was 10 times harder than when we hiked King's Peak a few years ago.
Relaxing at the lake!
Jared the explorer.
Garet is my sweet tooth boy! He loved this Oreo dessert that we had one night! One great thing about the horses is that we eat great food! Yummy!
Packin' up!
Ready to head home! It is such a piece of heaven on earth!
